Garden looking gorgeous, Worcestershire.

Purple clematis

Hosta

Poppy and allium
The bright abundant flowers of spring are
 over,replaced by summers flowers, jewel
bright and deeply fragrant blooms vying
 with one another for attention.

Scabious blue

Deep orange lily
Light blue allium
Yellow honeysuckle

Fragrant pink honeysuckle

Evening recollections

Evening recollections

On a warm summer evening such as this
The years recede and I remember young loves tender kiss
Warm perfumed air enfolds us in its caress
You relaxed and cool, me in my summer dress
Two young people too young to recognise and know
The gentle flutter of first feelings from which love will grow
I still recall the tilt of my head as I gazed
Absorbed in your eyes but feeling quite fazed
By the strength of emotion
Recollected and still felt.

Perfect weather.

Perfect weather

Lazy idyllic precious days
Bees buzzing about in the summer haze.
There is barely enough breeze to stir the grassy threads
Of tall foxgloves amongst the flower beds.
A cloudless sky of such clear blue
Bright butterflies dance their brief rendezvous.
The clarity of bird song on still warm air.
A day so beautiful, a jewel so rare.
An English summer sweet as strawberry
To be savoured in the mind, preserved deliciously.

Dad

Dad

We sat together
Me on his knee,
And we talked of fairies and knights
And trips to the moon,
And I knew
He always would love me.

We sat together
Round the kitchen table,
And we talked about school and exams,
And what to do when being bullied,
And I knew
He always loved me.

We sat together
On the garden bench,
I was now as tall as I ever would be,
In silence and shock,
And I knew
He always loved me.

We sat together,
He in his wheel chair
And we talked about everything
Even his fears,
And I knew
What it was to love.

I sit alone
Memories supporting me,
Of a man, his life and stories,
And his legacy,
And I know,
Inside me is someone worth love.

Waiting.

Waiting

Patience is a virtue
Sadly absent
Waiting for academic scores
On which future studies depend,
Letter to clearing already written,
Just in case.

Patience is a virtue
Somewhat sullied
Waiting for potential employers calls,
On which financial life depends,
Further applications already written,
Just in case.

Patience is a virtue
Sorely tested
Waiting for medical results
On which life depends,
Letters to loved ones already written,
Just in case.

Running low on patience.
Running low on options.
Running out of time.
Still waiting.

Sometimes you just have to remember what is important.

Youth, Age and Passion

When the sunlight skips and dances on the water
And the warmth gently kisses dry my skin
My sinews stretched and pliant now from swimming
I want to commit some truly original sin.

Age has come to bones and we feel fragile
Years like days are quickly slipping by
Deep the lines are etched upon your face now
But still there is great strength within your thigh

Why should youth so green, have all the pleasure
Still the blood flows red through heart and vein
Still there's time for love, and pain, and pleasure
There's nothing that we cannot do again.

I never want to feel final, finished and all grown up
I always want excitement, thrills and joy
And even when were old and grey together
I'LL remember I'm your girl and your my boy

Biscuits

They say, write about what you know, so I decided to write a poem about what I both know and love.

Biscuits

Oh I do like a biscuit.
Something crunchy and almondy,
Custard cream, bourbon, garibaldi,
Or for a treat one that's chocolaty,
All washed down with a hot cup of tea.

A sonnet in praise of friendship

A sonnet in praise of friendship

When you write a song of love
About one you've known for years
You cannot sound all lovey dove
Or it will end in tears
A lifetime of dependable
Forever being strong
Remaining constant and convivial
Safe harbour all lifelong
How can I sum up in words
All that you have been
My guide through every hazard
Since I was just nineteen
Best friend and co conspirator
Fellow traveller and adventurer

Big questions, possible answers.

The following poem is dedicated to anyone who has ever loved anything. We are the dominant species and the majority of us are kind, gentle and intelligent but sadly powerless. Unfortunately the tiny minority in positions of power are no more than pigs in fancy garb, their noses so deep in the trough they are effectively blind to the atrocities they facilitate.

Help, your planet needs you.

Newborn we are all potential
With each faltering step doors close, options diminish.
Like the foetus where cell division triggers
Chemical change determining final function.

When born, where lives, our parents
History, geography and family wealth,
These factors determine chance and future
Not our character, abilities or heart.

This dominant minority,
High on superiority and arrogance
Trample histories lessons,
Jackboots over ancestral knowledge .

Can we not see the futility
All human endeavour and technology
Nought but historic landfill
Worthless gadgetry and dust.

Ultimate consumers, plague of locust form
Arrogant anialistic devouring blindly
Futilely we label mine mine mine
But nothing owned is valued once the packaging removed.

Mans inhumanity to man epitomised
In the slavery of sweatshop production
Our kinsfolk used, abused, disposed of
Their plight effectively ignored.

This life, this brief existence a blink of light
Our moment on this Eden sphere
Each step should be on tiptoe
Rather than bulldozing natures beauty.

Visit the Natural History Museum.
Lie beneath the dinosaur skeleton.
You are so small and insignificant
Compared to this magnificent beast.

But it is nothing now.
For millennia it was forgot
Victorians excavated and rebuilt
This shadow of lost greatness.

If we continue to devour and trample
We will similarly be.
So protect your planets future
Step lightly on this blue orb.

To continue Good must stand and face
Mammon, arrogant dressed in couture blind entitlement
There is nothing clever in profiteering and destruction
Hold a mirror to those obese of purse and anorexic of soul

Unless the meek and kind inherit all will be lost
This graveyard planet a cosmic joke
For angels and aliens to laugh
At the futility of genocidal greed.
